NECD Widget (New Engine Configuration Data) User Guide

Welcome to the NECD Widget!

This document describes how to use the NECD widget, available on the myGEAerospace portal. This widget allows authorized users to view and download new engine configuration documentation.

Add NECD Widget to Profile

·      Launch the myGEAerospace Portal

·      When the "Add Widgets" screen appears, click the “NECD” widget icon

·      Click the “Done” button of the "Add Widgets" screen

·      The new NECD widget will appear in the user’s workspace

Engine Selection

The NECD widget will populate with engine serial numbers that the user is authorized to view.  The user may filter the NECD widget’s contents by modifying the selections in the portal’s top navigation area (i.e. select specific engine family, model, and specific ESN).

NECD Widget Components

·      The NECD widget displays information in a table format, sorted in descending ESN order so that the most recently produced ESN (i.e. highest ESN number) is at the top of the list.  The ESN sort order may be changed by clicking on the ESN column header.  Within the body of the table are clickable icons in five (5) columns.  Clicking on these icons will do the following:

o  EDS as HTML – allows for viewing/downloading of the EDS (Engine Data Submittal) document in HTML format (i.e. web browser format)

o  EDS as XML – allows for downloading of the EDS (Engine Data Submittal) document by sections, with each section written to an individual data file using the XML file format specification (XML = Extensible Markup Language)

o  Printable Report – allows for viewing/downloading of two (2) concatenated reports: EDS (Engine Data Submittal) and TCS (Test Cell Summary) in PDF file format (note: TCS may not be available for every  ESN)

o  Engine Data Changes (EDC) – Allows for viewing/downloading of the EDC (Engine Data Change) document (note: EDC may not be available for every ESN)

o  Test Cell Summary (TCS) – Allows for viewing/downloading of the TCS (Test Cell Summary), or Performance Summary as it is sometimes called (note: TCS may not be available for every ESN)

 ·      Clicking the ESN within the table will launch a window that gives the user the option to do each of the above actions, plus allows for the viewing and downloading of individual EDS sections in Microsoft Excel (.xls) format or PDF format, as follows …

 Example – selecting the “Configuration Listing” and pressing the “View” button will display the engine’s EDS configuration data on the screen.  The screen has two buttons that allow for downloading the data in Microsoft Excel (.xls) or PDF formats.  The other sections work similarly.

·      The NECD Widget has two additional buttons located in the upper-right corner.  These buttons allow a user to view/download sections of the EDS for up to 30 ESNs or view/download a table of Service Bulletin (SB) Status Definitions.

Downloadable Documents

EDS as HTML

When viewing the EDS document in HTML format, a file containing a web browser version of the EDS document will be downloaded as a file with a file name containing the engine serial number preceded by the letter “X” and a file extension of “.HTM” (e.g. X999999.HTM).

Note: If you download the document for the same engine more than once, the file name will include a count within parentheses in order to make the name a unique file name within your computer’s downloaded files directory  (e.g. X999999 (4).HTM).

EDS as XML

When downloading the EDS document in XML format, an XML-formatted file will be generated for each section of the EDS.  “XML” is the file extension used to represent files that follow an industry standard file format called “Extensible Markup Language.”  This file format is a text-based format used to represent structured information.  These files may be used as input files for loading data into other information systems. 

The multiple XML files generated for an engine will download in a “zipped,” or compressed file having a file name containing the engine serial number preceded by “xml_” and a file extension of “.zip” (e.g. xml_999999.zip).

Note: The XML file names contained within the .zip file are more descriptive than the file names generated by the previous NECD application, as shown below. 

Printable Report

When viewing the EDS document in Printable Report format, a file containing the EDS contents will be created in Portable Document Format.  If a Test Cell Summary (TCS) report has been uploaded for the engine, it will be included at the end of the report.  The file name will contain the engine serial number preceded by the letter “X” and a file extension of “.pdf” (e.g. X999999.pdf).

Note: If you download the report for the same engine more than once, the file name will include a count within parentheses in order to make the name a unique file name within your computer’s downloaded files directory  (e.g. X999999 (4).pdf).

Note: The Printable Report format has a slightly different appearance than the format generated by the previous NECD application.  While both versions present data in a table format, the new layout includes the following header-level data on each row: ESN, Engine Type, ETSN, ECSN, Ship Date, Report Date.  Including this header-level data on each row enables the NECD widget’s feature for viewing and downloading multiple ESNs (Engine Serial Numbers).

Engine Data Changes (EDC)

When downloading the Engine Data Change (EDC) document, a Microsoft Excel-formatted file will be downloaded.  The file name will contain the engine serial number preceded by the letter “X” and followed by “-EDC.xlsx.” (e.g. X999999-EDC.xlsx).

Test Cell Summary (TCS)

When downloading the Test Cell Summary (TCS) document, a file containing the TCS will be created in Portable Document Format.  The file name will contain the engine serial number preceded by the letter “P” and a file extension of “.pdf” (e.g. P999999.pdf).

Notification Subscription to NECD Changes

Users may use the portal’s notification subscription tool to receive notifications when NECD documents are uploaded or updated for specific engine models or for specific operators, based on the user’s subscription setup. Follow the step-by-step guide here and subscribe to NECD.
